Buffer tanks, buffer vessels & accumulators are designed for the storage of domestic, heating or chilled water. They increase a systems volume in order to reduce cycling of the heating or chilling source, as well as to help meet peak heating or cooling demands.

Heating buffer vessels can be used with one or more energy source, including; gas boilers; oil boilers; biomass boilers; CHP boilers, heat pumps and solar heating systems. 

Specific types of buffer tanks can be used to store domestic hot water or for a combination of heating water storage and instantaneous domestic hot water production.
